Beach Haven Marlin and Tuna Club

75 years of fishing history

A MESSAGE FROM THE COMMODORE

Dear Fellow Members:

Thank you for affording me the opportunity to serve as the new Commodore of the Beach Haven Marlin and Tuna Club.  I am grateful for your continued support of the BHMTC, and working together, I am confident we can continue to thrive and position our club well for years to come.

I would be remiss if I didn’t take this opportunity to thank our past Commodore, Jeff Bottari, and thank him for his steady leadership through challenging times – most notably the COVID-19 pandemic.  Jeff, thank you for your years of dedication and contributions to BHMTC.

As the 2022 season comes to an end, I would like to remind you that we still have several exciting events this fall that provide an opportunity for some fall fishing and social activity.  I encourage you to visit our website (www.BHMTC.com) for more details, but a summary of the remaining 2022 events is noted below.

On the topic of finances, I am pleased to inform you that due to the careful budgeting and expense management of our Executive Committee over the past number of years, the club stands on solid financial ground.  As such, the Executive Committee has voted to maintain the current annual dues for the 2023 season, so there will be no change from the 2022 dues.

While we are pleased that we’re able to maintain dues at their current levels for 2023, like everyone else, we are facing higher costs due to inflation and uncertainty as to the economy in the coming years.  One of the primary goals of the Executive Committee is to continue to explore how we can best position the club for the immediate years, but also for the future.  As some of you might recall, having a solid reserve account was pivotal for us to be able to rebuild our clubhouse after Hurricane Sandy.

In 2023, we will continue our prudent expense management while maintaining the level of activity and caretaking required of our clubhouse and grounds. We will also be reviewing our current dues levels and deciding whether a modest increase for 2024 is appropriate, but to be clear, this has not been determined and is only being explored. As you know, dues have not been increased since 2018 and at only just $450 per year, membership at BHMTC still represents one of – if not the best – value for a club such as ours. We will keep it that way!

As we wrap up 2022 and move into the 2023 season, I look forward to continuing frequent and timely communication with the membership, so you are informed and remain an active participant in the club.  We are always looking for members who would like to be more involved, and I encourage you to reach out to me with your ideas and/or concerns about the club or simply to say hello.

We have an exciting 2023 planned with lots of great tournaments, awards, and social events at the club, which I know we’ll be ready for coming out of the winter months.  I look forward to seeing everyone at our remaining events for the year and making our 2023 season the best yet at BHMTC. Please remember to register for them if you plan on attending/volunteering.

Sincerely,

Matt Grobelny
